In the novel, "The Tale of Genji" written by Murasaki Shikibu, Lady Murasaki is asking herself if she should feel so much awe and reverence for a man who is a god. She also shows how she feels in regards to the Godking in this quote. By saying that he is a god, she is saying that he is more of a god after he is dead. The idea behind this quote is that there are many things in life that we cannot understand until they are no longer around. When the Godking dies, he will be a god in his death, not when he was alive before his death.
